An evaluation of the national plan for the management of radioactive materials
The objective of the National Plan for the Management of Radioactive Materials and Waste (PNG-MDR) was to ensure an exhaustive and coherent management of our country's radioactive materials and waste. Article 6 of the finance act of 28 June 2006 concerning the sustainable management of radioactive materials and waste prescribed that this plan be established no later than 31 December 2006 and updated every three years. The following report prepared by Mr. Christian Bataille and Mr. Claude Birraux, Deputies, constitutes the first evaluation of the PNG-MDR by the Parliamentary Office, which was made responsibility for each successive edition by the law of 28 June 2006. Providing a complete overview of the various types of radioactive waste and materials, as well as of the different procedures for their management, the PNG-MDR defines the technical solutions studied or implemented in order to meet the objectives set by the law of 28 June 2006. In their evaluation report, Messrs. Bataille and Birraux, after having verified that the initial version of the PNG-MDR complies with its specifications, make several recommendations concerning both the plan itself and the implementation of the entire nuclear fuel cycle.
