Economic integration of immigrants from Ukraine in Poland in the context of demographic trends
BAS (2024) Studia BAS 3/79, Economic integration of immigrants from Ukraine in Poland in the context of demographic trends
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014 and 2022 led to an unprecedented influx of immigrants to Poland, most of whom quickly found employment. This article examines factors influencing employment and intentions to settle permanently among different groups of Ukrainian immigrants. It analyses gender differences and compares refugees from the 2022 war with earlier economic migrants. Good knowledge of Polish positively affects both employment and settlement intentions, though impacts vary by group. For example, language skills were crucial for female refugees but less important for earlier voluntary immigrants. Child benefits did not reduce employment among refugees but did among earlier migrants. These findings are key for shaping policies supporting immigrants' economic integration and forecasting future migration trends.
