Status quo and developments of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis
TAB (2019) Status quo and developments of prenatal diagnosis, TAB-Fokus no. 21, September 2019
Since 2014, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is carried out in Germany within the framework of the requirements of the German Embryo Protection Act. The approval of this genetic diagnostic procedure under narrowly defined conditions was preceded by a long and intensive public debate. In order to take a closer look at the development of PGD in Germany, the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment has commissioned the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB) to answer the following questions, among others: How has the field of reproductive medicine evolved since then? What are the experiences of the various persons involved? And how do scientific-technical innovations and legal practice shape the development? For the full report TAB-Arbeitsbericht Nr. 182, published in December 2019 after acceptance by the German Bundestag, please visit the German project page.
