5G – what does it mean for Norway?
While 3G gave us data and mobile apps, and 4G provided video streaming, 5G will have significant implications across several dimensions: higher speed, the Internet of Things (IoT), low latency and guaranteed capacity.
Much like with the Internet, it is difficult to predict exactly how the fifth generation of mobile networks will be used. Along with better mobile broadband, the technology allows for new areas of use for both private firms and the public sector, like industry 4.0, smart cities, emergency communication, and health. The introduction of 5G in Norway also raises questions concerning business and industry policies, security, regional policies and net neutrality.
